The
Chemical Oxygen Demand of water is defined by ISO
standards 6060 and 15705. These state that the reaction
is a silver catalysed oxidation with potassium dichromate/sulphuric
acid at 148âC for two hours. The newer standard
15705 has significant advantages as it reduces the
amount of mercury and other toxic and hazardous reagents.
The tests are therefore safer for the environment
and for the analyst. This has been achieved whilst
maintaining the quality of the analytical results.
Tests 985 027; 985 022; 985 026; 985 029 are certified
as meeting the standard ISO57075:2002.

Chloride
ions affect the results of the COD test. All the tests
listed above are protected against interference up
to 1,500mg/lt of chloride. Above this level the sample
needs to be diluted with COD free water or treated
with the chloride complexing reagent (part number
918 911)
