Energy and Efficiency systems from Envitech Ltd

Improved Performance & Energy Efficiency Using Envitech's Fluorescent DO systems and ISE Ammonium/Nitrate instruments

OptoDOSys - Fluorescent DO system

AmNiSys used for Process Control in ANNAMOX Ammonia removal and Conventional Nitrifying ASP's

AmNiSys transmitter, sensor head and sensor assembly

Envitech's in-situ Ammonia measuring systems are successfully employed for final effluent monitoring and process control alike. The PBS1 in-situ Ammonia analyser is widely used in Southern Water for FE analysis, and by Severn Trent water for dynamic trimming of DO set points in Nitrifying ASP's. Savings of 15%have been demonstrated by this approach. To download a presentation on this topic Click Here, register or login, navigate to Technical Articles/Process Monitoring & Control/ Envitech ASP Ammonia control -STW
Other operators have used AmNiSys, a cheaper ISE system for similar process control.
The AmNiSys measuring system is currently used by EAWAG in Switzerland for control of their development Annamox units. This process, which uses 50% less energy than conventional p rocesses, removes Ammonia from high strength digester liquors by partially oxidising to Nitrite at relatively low DO concentrations (<1mg/l) and reacting Nitrite with Ammonia to produce Nitrogen gas and a small amount of Nitrate, all within one reactor.
Control is key to the success for this process. Hence measurement and control of DO, NH3-N, NO3 and NO2-N is required. AmNiSys may currently be used for all these except NO2-N. New more stable ISE membranes for NO2-N measurement are currently being developed and tested.
The technology has now been successfully transferred onto more than 10 full scale Annamox plants in Switzerland.

An optical Dissolved Oxygen instrument from InsiteIG, ideal for use in wastewater treatment works. The D.O. technology is based on the quenching of Ruthenium salt fluorescence by the presence of D.O. It is "Non consumptive" and therefore does not require movement of the medium past the sensor. It is also very accurate at low DO levels enabling use in anoxic and anaerobic sections. The sensor design together with optional air cleaning reduces maintenance to a very low level, and the 5 yr sensor warranty guarantees low cost of ownership. No end caps/membranes or chemicals are required. The sensor is not affected by ambient light and is not harmed by drying out. A variety of transmitter types and sensor mounting options are available. DO, pH, ORP and SS may all be run from one transmitter in different combinations.
