Anaerobic
digestion is no longer just a means of stabilising unwanted
organic solids for disposal, it has finally taken its
rightful position as an important source of high grade
energy production. Water companies are aggressively looking
at maximising gas production potential of their existing
assets by encouraging import of high strength industrial
organic waste. This requires a much greater level of knowledge
to assure success. Potential imports require screening
for gas production potential and potential toxic affects, and
the long term biomass activity in the digesters needs
monitoring to ensure maximum performance. The Challenge
Anaerobic Respirometer enables all this to be done in
a simple cost effective manner. Large sludge reception
centres such as those at STW Minworth routinely submitted
10 or more samples weekly for third party assessment at
approximately £100/sample. Now this work is done
in-house saving £50K/yr and enabling a much higher
level of scrutiny. Payback is less than 6 months whilst
ensuring greater process protection.

RespSys-AER200
is an extremely flexible and expandable laboratory respirometer
system, capable of both aerobic and anaerobic operation.
At the heart of the system is a gas bubble counting system
which can measure anaerobic gas production rates or aerobic
oxygen consumption rates. Each system can accommodate
3 base units of 8 test vessels each. If needed both aerobic
and anaerobic tests can be performed at the same time.
Your digesters can be optimised and your asp protected
against any deleterious return liquors at the same time.
Features include:
-
8
bottle modules
-
Magnetic stirrer bases & bars
-
Up to 3 modules run on one interface module
-
Each module may be used in a different mode simultaneously
-
Optional thermostatically controlled heater/cooler
units
-
Interfaces to your computer
Applications
include:
-
Toxicity detection
-
Gas production potential determination
-
Anaerobic biomass condition assessment
-
Aerobic biomass condition assessment
-
Aerobic treatability studies
-
Solid phase Composting control

Developments in Aerobic Respirometry with RespSys BM-advance
& RespSys BM-bio
RespSys-BM
advance is a single vessel thermostatically controlled
respirometer which may be operated in dynamic, static
or cyclic modes. It is an "open system" allowing
additions of test substances or substrates throughout
operation. It comes complete with built in thermostatic
bath, computer and software and optional vessels for
solid phase tests or tests using submerged filter media.
RespSys-
BM Bio is a "Twin vessel" system
ideal for testing short and long term toxicity or treatability
studies. Again it comes with integral thermostat, computer
and software.
RespSys-Challenge
S is 4 or 8 vessel adaptation allowing compost
or soil remediation studies
